ACES
Wednesday was ACES day, which stands for All Children Exercise Simultaneusly. We had hoped to all make it outside to walk the nature trail, but the weather didn't cooperate. Instead we got to participate by cardio drumming in the gym. It was sooo much fun!!
Thank you to everyone that was able to make it to Culvers for dinner Monday night. It was so nice to see you. The money raised helps to buy student prizes for PBIS.
Literacy- This week we began a new unit in Literacy called "Taking Care of the Earth". The students are introduced to the importance of being environmentally aware individuals. This week we read about the Earth and what it is made up of (land, water, and air), trash, and Earth's natural resources. This unit has really gotten the kids thinking about how they can help the environment.
Skills- In skills we learning how to write the capital letters to the alphabet using the correct writing strokes. We learned the tricky words: "where", "no", "why", and "to". We are continuing to practice reading, comprehending what we are reading, and writing.
Math- In math this week we continued to learn about subtraction and subtraction stories. The big idea in this unit is for students to form subtaction stories and write them using symbols. Students will also master subtraction fluency within 5. The students learned how to use their fingers and a picture as strategies to help them solve subtraction problems. We also were introduced to subtraction stories.
Amy Hutton Triathlon- On Friday, May 24th Forest View is holding the Amy Hutton Triathlon. This will take place of the Color Run that we have done in previous years. The students will participate in a STEM activity, Reading activity, and a Health and Fitness event. Last year we were able to give away 2 $500 scholarships to graduating seniors with the money raised. Our goal is to do the same this year. Please look over the form and let me know if you have any questions.
