Welcome Back
I hope everyone had a wonderful and relaxing spring break. The kids were excited to be back to see each other and had so many stories to tell. They have done a great job getting settled back in.
This week we were excited to welcome Haleigh Vaughn from 9 & 10 news meteorologist team. It was great for the kids to have a real life connection to their learning. She read us the story "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs". We thought the story was pretty funny and couldn't imagine if food were to actually fall from the sky. The kids had some great questions for Haleigh. If you didn't get a chance to tune into the news Tuesday night, Haleigh sent us the links from the news. Scroll all the way to the bottom of the newsletter to watch the segment featuring our Kindergarten kids.
We continued to read about Columbus's four trips to the New World. We also read stories about 100 years after he passed away the Pilgrims began their voyage, but for much different reasons than Christopher Columbus. We are learning that although this was the first time that Europe was discovering the America's that there were already native people living their, meaning that this new world wasn't so new. In today's story we read about the Pilgrims landing at Plymouth Rock and meeting Squanto and several other members of the Wampanoag tribe. Next week we will be wrapping up our unit on Columbus and beginning our next unit on Colonial Towns and Townspeople.
In math we have learned about the combinations of 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10. The students were also introduced to +1 and +0. We have been using a lot of manipulatives to explore and learn the combinations.
In our science station we are investigating ramps. Please feel free to send in any materials that could enhance our ramps. We have boards of different size and texture, blocks of different length, and wrapping paper and paper towel tubes. The kids are loving making ramp blue prints and turning their drawings into an actual ramp.
