Columbus and the Pilgrims

"It all began with a shoe on the wall. A shoe on the wall shouldn't be there at all."- Dr. Seuss

We had a great time celebrating March is reading month with a wacky week of fun! Lots of reading, comfy clothes, mixed matched socks, popcorn, and the High School Vikings to rock us into spring break.

This week we began a new unit about Columbus and the Pilgrims. We are learning that Columbus was seeking spices, cloth, and gold in the Indies. It was only by accident that he landed with his crew in the New World. The kids are soaking up this adventure and look forward to each read aloud.

In math the students began a new unit on addition. The big idea of this unit is to be able to combine sets and grasp a firm understanding of sets to 10. Currently we are working on combining two sets. We have found the friends of 5 and the friends of 6 through investigation. The kids have not been introduced to the plus sign or the equal sign yet.

Mark your calendar- Fun Night is Friday, April 12th. It is a fun event for the whole family! Each grade level creates a gift basket to be auctioned off. Kindergarten's theme is "Take Time for Yourself". Please send in donations to add to our basket. Some ideas might include: beauty masks, bath stuff, nail care, essential oils. Fun Night is a big fundraiser for our school. Money from this fundraiser goes towards playground equipment, school activities, and supplies that enhance our school and the students learning. THANK YOU TO EVERYONE THAT HAS SENT IN DONATIONS!
