Seasons & Weather

We are having a great time learning about the four seasons and weather. This week we learned about winter, spring, summer, and winter. The kids had fun dressing for each season. We discussed what the weather would be like, how we would dress, the holidays of each season, the temperature, and what we might do outside during each season. When we learned about spring, the students did a rain cloud expirement. We added water droplets to our shaving cream cloud. When the "cloud" became full of water, it rained down. The kids really enjoyed this!

This week we recieved an email from Kinzie the dog who lives in Ohio. Kinzie explained that their winter has been mild and the ground has been green most of the winter, but it did snow last Sunday. We also recieved an email from Germany. The weather right now is similar to our spring, fifty degrees and windy. We marked our map with Kinzie's pictures and the pictures we got from Germany. We are looking forward to learning more about the weather in other areas of the United States and around the world.

In math we started a new unit on comparing sets. The big idea of this unit is that students will explore comparing and combining sets up to 20. Students will also find the difference between the two sets. This week we focused on the vocabulary: more and less. The students compared sets to 10. We also are beginning to learn how to compare "some extra". For example 15 is ten and five extras... 16 is ten and six extras. This will help students when they begin to compare teen numbers.

In skills we learned the sounds: sh, ch, and th. We are now working on segmenting up to five sounds in a word. The kids are doing great with letter names. Please continue to work on these at home with your child.

Fun Night is Friday, April 12th. Each grade level creates a gift basket to be auctioned off. Kindergarten's theme is "Take Time for Yourself". Please send in donations to add to our basket. Some ideas might include: beauty masks, bath stuff, nail care, essential oils. Fun Night is a big fundraiser for our school. Money from this fundraiser goes towards playground equipment, school activities, and supplies that enhance our school and the students learning.

Upcoming events:

*Monday, March 25- March, 29: Spring Break

*Friday, April 19- No School: Good Friday

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns. Thank you for everything you do!
