Happy Valentines Day
Just a reminder- There is no school Monday for Presidents Day
It felt good to have a 3 day week with the kids. We had fun getting back into the routine of things and celebrating Valentines Day together.
In math we wrapped up our unit on 2D and 3D shapes. The students learned the shapes: circle, triangle, square, rectangle, hexagon, cone, sphere, cube, and cylinder. We learned about each shapes attributes (vertices and faces), found objects around our class and outside that look like each shape, and explored with the shapes to create new shapes. We are still continuing to practice making combinations of ten, counting to 100, and writing to 20. Next week we will begin to learn about numbers to 100.
In literacy we are continuing to learn about Kings and Queens. The kids love hearing about Kings and Queens in the fiction and nonfiction read alouds. We have learned what kings and queens wear, where they lived, how they were treated, and their families. We read the story of "King Midas", and the nursery rhymes "Sing a song of Six Pence" and "Old King Cole".
The kids worked with their reading buddies to help Rapunzel get down from the tower safely. The kids came up with really creative solutions using only index cards and tape. It is really cool to see the Kindergarten students work with the Third Graders.
Family Board Game Night is Thursday, February 28th from 5:30 to 7:00. This will be a fun night for the whole family. Each family that attends will get a board game to take home. Information came home this week in your child's folder. Mrs. O and myself will be helping with child care. We will help watch younger kids so you can play with your school age kids. It is going to be a lot of fun! I can't wait to see everyone there.
