Today we were very excited to have Mr. Hicok join our class for a Pow wow to celebrate the end of our Native American unit. Mr. Hicok told us the Native American folktale "How Raven Stole The Sun". The kids loved hearing the story. Next week we will begin our unit on Kings and Queens. If anyone has anything they would like to share/do with our class to bring this unit or any others to life please let me know. We love to have visitors:)

In math we have started a new unit on shapes. Our main focus is recognizing solid and flat shapes while still reviewing and practicing our numbers to 20. This week we learned about four solid shapes (3D shapes): cone, sphere, cylinder, and cube. We worked together to look closely at these shapes to see how they stack and roll. We also looked at the characteristics of each shape.

We are beginning to work on words with four sounds. The kids are working on hearing, writing, and reading words with four sounds. This is new and will take some practice, but the kids are perservering and really giving it a try.

Starting next week we will have a few changes to our schedule. Our art time will change from Tuesday afternoons with Miss Shafer to Monday mornings with Miss Shroder. Miss Shafer will be teaching some of the art classes at the High School. The kids will miss her, but we know she will do great.

Valentines Day is only a few short weeks away. If you are already picking up Valentine cards please try to find ones that do not include candy. If you want to attach something to your child's valentine please think of non edible choices such as erasers, pencils, bubbles, etc. Also, please only have your child write his/her name on the card. This will make it easier when the students pass out their Valentines. We will celebrate with a STEM making party with Mrs. O's class and will be creating and building.

Upcoming events:

*Friday, February 15 & Monday, February 18- No School

Our very wonderful counselor Mrs. Bender's last day will be Wednesday. She wanted us to share the following note with families:

Farewell to my Forest View Friends!

I wanted to let you know that next week will be my last week as School Counselor at Forest View. It is bittersweet, as I've accepted a position in another district in order to be closer to home and my own children. I've SO loved being your counselor these past 5 years and will dearly miss my students, their parents, and the terrific staff. A new school counselor will be joining soon and I will certainly stay in contact in order to help that transition go as smoothly as possible. I hope to see you all around out and about in the community!

Take Care,

Mrs. Bender

Have a great weekend! Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns. Thank you for everything you do!

Jessica
