Ice and Snow

JUST A REMINDER - Monday is Late start. School will start at 10:05.

It looked like all of the moms and sons had a great night at game night Friday night! I enjoyed seeing all of the pictures on Forest Views Facebook page.

After our ice days, we explored ice and snow through investigative play on Friday. The students painted on ice, made snowman using playdough, made snowflakes on our light table, and drew and created a snowman using art and magnetic blocks. It was a great way for us to ease back into our day together.

We are continuing to learn about Native Americans. With the snow days our units are taking a little bit longer, but the kids are really loving it! This week we learned about the Lenape tribe, the Wampanoag tribe, and the Yup'ik Eskimos. On Friday Alice shared a real life connection to the Yup'ik Eskimos of Southwest Alaska. When Alice was born her family lived in the village of Napaskiak on the Kuskokwim River. Alice brought many artifacts including moccasins, mittens, a hat, and more for the students to look at and feel.

In math we learned about the numbers 16, 17, and 18. We are learning that teen numbers begin with a 1 because they have 1 group of ten. We worked together to order the teen numbers. Please continue to work with your child at home on teen numbers. This is still tricky for some of the students.

This week the students were assessed for Dibels. The students read silly words, did a first sound fluency, and segmented words. Report cards will be going home February 1st and will show your child's progress so far this school year. If you have questions or concerns please let me know.

In your child's folder was a peanut/tree nut allergy notice. We have a new student in our classroom with severe allergies. The kids did a great job on Friday washing their hands after snacks and lunch. At home, please talk to your child about the importance of not sharing food.

On Wednesday, January 23rd Barn Hill is doing an animal presentation at our school at 2:00. Students need to have a permission slip signed in order to attend. I will send another copy home tomorrow. Please look for it in your child's folder.

Upcoming events:

*Monday, January 21- Late Start

*Wednesday, January 23- Barn Hill animal presentation at 2:00

*Friday, February 15 & Monday, February 18- No School

Have a great weekend! Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns. Thank you for everything you do!
