A BIG Surprise!

JUST A REMINDER... MONDAY IS LATE START. SCHOOL WILL BEGIN AT 10:05

At our Wednesday wrap up meeting with Mrs. Paulen, Santa Clause came announced that he had a big surprise for the students... A NEW PLAYGROUND SET! We are so grateful to Cadillac Rotary and our PTO for helping to make this happen. The kids are beyond excited. One student told me "This is the best day ever!" I reminded the kids that the playground set will not start to be constructed until the ground thaws in the spring. It will be a great addition to the playground at Forest View.

The kids did a great job Monday at their Christmas concert. They were very excited to sing for you and show you all the songs that they had bee practicing in music so far this school year.

In skills we learned the sounds: j, w, and y. We also learned the word "yellow". Continue to practice with your kids at home. They love showing you what they are learning.

In literacy this week we read the nonfiction story "The Little Red Hen". The kids loved this story. We made bread and talked about where each ingrediant came from. We also read about crops and the season of farming. We will finish this unit next week and begin to learn about the Native Americans after Christmas break.

In math we are beginning to learn about teen numbers or ten and some extra. We learned about the number ten and eleven. It is important for the kids to see teen numbers as a ten group and some ones to help them get a concrete understanding of teen numbers.

This week we worked with our reading buddies to put our plans of catching the Gingerbread Man into action. The students worked together to create a way of trapping the Gingerbread man. Next Wednesday we will be making Gingerbread houses together. Thank you for the supplies that have been sent in. We are still in need of a few more things in order to have enough for everyone. Please send in a small bag of decorating materials (candy, buttons, cereal, pretzels, marshmallows).

Next Friday we will be having our Polar Express party. The kids are invited to wear their pajamas to school. We will start our morning with a pancake breakfast. If you would like to help make pancakes please let me know. We will be playing outside in the afternoon and end our day with some hot cocoa and the Polar Express Movie.

Hazel is this weeks Star Student. She is a hard worker and perseveres when things are tough. Great job, Hazel!

Important Dates to Remember:

December 17 - Late Start

December 22 to January 2- Christmas Break

Please continue to collect box tops for our classroom. Our class gets to keep half of the money earned to buy supplies that we are in need of. The other half is used to help fund school activities.

Have a great weekend! Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.
