Farms

This week in literacy we started a new unit on farms. We learned about the many jobs a farmer has and we learned about a few of the animals that can be found on a farm including cows, chickens, and pigs. Last week we joined Mrs. O's class on a virtual field trip to a pig farm! We were one of several classes from around the United States that virtually toured the pig farm and even got to ask the farmer questions! It was a fun experience!

In skills we learned the sounds: b, l, r, and u. The kids are doing a great job adding the new sounds to the sounds they already know. We are working hard to use all of sounds they know to write and read words and phrases.

In math we finished up our unit on on comparing and ordering objects according to their measurable attributes. This week we learned about weight and capacity. We also learned nonstandard ways of measuring objects length and height and nonstandard ways of measuring weight and capacity. Next week we will continue to learn about our teen numbers and look at each one a little closer.

Today we worked with our reading buddies to come up with a way to catch the Gingerbread Man. The students are so creative and love working with their buddy- they truly look forward to this part of the week! On Wednesday, December 19th we will be making Gingerbread houses with our reading buddies. If you are able to please send in a baggy of materials that we can share to help build the houses. Please do not feel that you need to buy anything. Instead, be creative and look for things you already have at home (buttons, marshmallows, candy, cereal...) Thank you to those that offered to make frosting. I am looking for one or two more volunteers to make some more if you are able. Thank you for helping to make this fun project possible:)!

Our Christmas concert is Monday at 7:00 PM at the High School auditorium. Students should meet in the choir room by 6:45. Students will get picked up from the choir room following the concert.

Nevaeh is this weeks Star Student. She is a kind friend and is always willing to give a hand. Way to go, kiddo!

Important Dates to Remember:

December 10- Christmas Music Concert

Jordan's Birthday

December 17 - Late Start

December 22 to January 2- Christmas Break

Please continue to collect box tops for our classroom. Our class gets to keep half of the money earned to buy supplies that we are in need of. The other half is used to help fund school activities.

Have a great weekend! Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

Jessica
