Reading Buddy Fun

We are excited to begin Reading Buddies with Mr. Helsel's third grade class. Each kindergarten student is paired up with a third grade buddy. Every other Friday we will meet with our reading buddies to read and to do some fun projects with. Today we read a few versions of "The Three Little Pigs". Next Thursday we are going to meet again to do a STEM activity with our reading buddies. The kids love hanging out together!

In literacy this week we learned about Folktales. We learned that they are fiction and told from person to person. We read "The Wolf and the Seven Kids", The Bremen Town Musicians", "Momotaro, Peach Boy", and began "The Story of Jumpking Mouse". We are focusing on the characters, setting, and plot (the events in the story).

We learned the letter sounds: o, c, g, and i. The kids are using the sounds that they have learned to make words and read words by blending the sounds together. We worked on identifying the vowel sounds o, a, and i in the middle of words.

In math we are continuing to work on writing, recognizing, and counting to 10. This week discussed different ways that we can represent the numbers 9 and 10. We have been working a lot on number order and using a number line to help us find the missing number.

Jordan is this weeks Star Student. He is a hard worker and always tries his best! Way to go, buddy!

Next Wednesday is Halloween. Students are welcome to wear halloween apparel such as shirts, headbands, hats, and socks. Keep in mind that students will be going on a hike on the nature trail no matter the weather. Please make sure they are dressed warm for the walk. We will be going on our walk at 1:45. If you would like to join us please arrive at 1:30.
